McLean Earns Certified Association Executive (CAE) Designation

Robert E. McLean, president of the association management firm REM Legislative Services, has received the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives.

McLean is executive director for two Washington, DC-based 501 (c)(6) associations: the Mailers Council, a coalition of corporations, nonprofit organizations and major mailing associations; and the PaperCom Alliance, a coalition of associations and corporations in the paper, mailing, software, printing, publishing and logistics industries.

Prior to certification, CAE applicants are rated on their experience and accomplishments in association management, and must successfully complete a comprehensive examination that tests their general knowledge of the association management profession.

The May 2002 class, of which McLean is a member, brings the total number of association executives who have earned the CAE designation to over 2,800. Among association professionals, "CAE" is an indication of demonstrated skill in leadership, activity in community affairs and expertise in association management.

McLean, a 26-year veteran of the communications industry, opened REM Legislative Services in 1996. He is a registered lobbyist on Capitol Hill, provides management services, teaches training classes, and consults on training and communications programs.

The American Society of Association Executives, Washington, DC, is an individual membership society made up of more than 25,000 association executives and suppliers. Its members manage leading trade associations and professional societies across the country and also represent suppliers of products and services to the association community.
