McLean to Present at IAAMC Annual Meeting Arlington, VA, August 5, 2003—Robert E. McLean, CAE, will discuss the benefits of incorporating a government relations program into an association’s menu of services during a session at the annual meeting of the International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC) in Los Angeles, CA, August 19-21. In a workshop entitled “The Art of Lobbying—Who and When,” McLean will review the steps in creating an advocacy program, including defining its goals and objectives, and identifying the resources needed to operate it. He also will provide guidelines to determine how and when to hire a lobbyist, and offer a case study to illustrate the value of working within a coalition for legislative success. McLean is president of REM Association Services, an association management company. He has been a registered lobbyist for the past 15 years, manages two trade associations and lobbies for his client associations on Capitol Hill. Each year McLean trains more than 10,000 grassroots lobbyists at seminars in Washington, DC, and around the country. He has authored several articles on government relations programs, now available on REM’s website (http://www.remservices.biz/html/services.html). IAAMC is a trade organization founded in 1963. Today its 151 association management company members work with more than 1,290 associations with total annual budgets exceeding $980 million (US). These organizations serve more than 1.9 million members.
