Robert E. McLean Named to ASAE’s
Association Management Company Section Council
Arlington, VA, September 9, 2005—Robert E. McLean, CAE, president of REM Association Services of Arlington, VA, has been named to the Association Management Company (AMC) Section Council of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). Section council members are selected based on their experience and leadership as AMC executives.
McLean, who has nearly two decades of experience in associations, opened REM Association Services in 1996. The firm delivers full-service management to three associations and consults with several others. McLean is a registered lobbyist on Capitol Hill, provides management services and consults on association program development and strategic planning. He is executive director for the Mailers Council, the Association of Language Companies and the Coal Trading Association.
In 2002 McLean received the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from ASAE. CAE is an indication of demonstrated skill in association management.
AMCs are for-profit businesses that often serve as the client association’s headquarters, and provide leadership, professional management and administrative services. AMCs in the United States manage budgets exceeding $2 billion collectively. The overhead costs for the professional offices are shared by other associations and societies that are the AMC’s clients, increasing their resources and capabilities without major capital investment. Based on the concept of shared resources, an AMC provides volunteer organizations with the expertise they need when they need it. The AMC assigns executives and administrators to conduct the association’s day-to-day operations.
