Coal Trading Association Selects REM Association Services

Arlington, VA, September 21, 2004—The Coal Trading Association (CTA) has selected REM Association Services, an Arlington, VA, association management company (AMC), to provide full service management for the organization. Robert E. McLean, CAE, and REM’s president, will serve as the CTA’s executive director.

Founded in 1999, CTA exists to promote efficient and effective coal trading and risk management practices and procedures. CTA develops and maintains industry standards for coal trading activity with the goal of achieving a disciplined, liquid and efficient coal trading industry.  To achieve this goal, CTA develops policies, exchanges information among members and other interested professional and technical groups, and offers training programs to improve the knowledge, skills and practice tools of its members.

To help achieve its mission, CTA also conducts an annual conference. The 2004 event will be held December 8-9 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in New York, NY. The meeting also serves as the annual business meeting for the association.

REM, a full-service AMC, manages two other trade associations and consults with several others. The firm is an active member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC). McLean chairs IAAMC’s Government Relations Committee and is a member of ASAE’s Small Staff Advisory Committee.

AMCs are for-profit businesses that provide professional management and administrative services to tax-exempt or nonprofit organizations. AMCs in the United States manage budgets exceeding $2 billion collectively.
