ROBERT E. MCLEAN, CAE, AND HUGH WEBSTER, ESQ., TO PRESENT FORM 990 UPDATE AT THE AMC OWNERS/PRINCIPALS PROGRAM ON AUGUST 15 IN SAN DIEGO
Arlington, VA, August 14, 2008—Robert E. McLean, CAE, president of REM Association Services, and Hugh K. Webster, Esq., Partner, Webster Chamberlain and Bean will present a session at this year's AMC Owners' Principals Program in San Diego on August 15. The session will provide an update on revisions to the IRS Form 990.
The Owners/Principals Program is a joint production of the Association Management Company Institute and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). Attracting more than 150 association management company (AMC) owners and principals and industry partners, it is held prior to the ASAE Annual Conference, which begins on August 16 in San Diego.
The presentation will focus on recent revision to the Form 990, which nonprofit organizations submit annually to the IRS. The revisions affect all nonprofits, including associations. However, the revisions have unique implications for AMCs because of new requirements for disclosing the relationship between associations and management companies as well as management fees.
Both McLean and Webster, as members of the AMC Institute's Government Relations Committee, have worked with ASAE's Public Policy Department to ensure that the IRS understood the relationship AMCs have with their clients and how AMC information is disclosed on associations' tax returns.
McLean is a 32-year veteran of the communications industry, including 20 years in the association world. He is president of REM Association Services, an association management company in Arlington, VA. McLean is executive director of several trade associations and a registered lobbyist on Capitol Hill. He is the former chair of the Government Relations Committee for the AMC Institute, the leading trade association for association management companies. He is also chair of ASAE’s AMC Section Council. Council members are selected based on their experience and leadership as AMC executives.
