ROBERT E. MCLEAN, CAE, TO CO-PRESENT SESSION ON SOCIAL MEDIA AT THE AMC INSTITUTE WINTER MEETING

Arlington, VA, February 10, 2009—REM Association Services President Robert E. McLean, CAE, will co-present a session on February social media for associations at the AMC Institute’s winter meeting. Michael T. LoBue, CAE, will be his co-presenter. The AMC Institute is the international trade association for owners of association management companies (AMCs).

The presentation will cover how social media, a term for software tools that allow groups to generate content and engage in peer-to-peer conversations and exchange of content, is a growing phenomenon for trade associations and professional societies. LoBue and McLean will review some of the more popular social media tools and offer resources for those who want to learn more about how to implement social media.

McLean is the author of a new e-book, "7 Reasons Why Really Small Businesses Should Join their Industry Trade Association To Succeed (even if it means eating a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches)." The e-book offers advice for really small business owners who want to succeed and explains why the time and money spent joining and becoming an active participant in an association offers the best opportunity for networking and information, and that can produce inspiration and affirmation unavailable anywhere else.

McLean, a certified association executive, established REM in 1996. The AMC manages or consults with several nonprofit entities, including national and international trade associations and professional societies whose members are in the US and more than a dozen other countries. McLean is the chair of the American Society of Association Executives’ AMC Section Council. He is also a member of the AMC Institute and served as the first chair of its Government Relations Committee. McLean has been a presenter and panelist at numerous AMC Institute and ASAE conferences.
